I feel really proud of my Jamaican workers. I am also striving to get the same level of commitment from my Attendant staff - with some success.
What was the main motivation for those workers?

Really a wonderful success story. Heartiest congratulations to all parties involved!!! This should be front page news. Am I correct in recalling that it was also completed below budget?

Next stop Fiesta building site in Hanover!!

Hello Fay: It’s great that you stopped by. The case study suggests some useful pointers about how we can radically increase productivity in Jamaica. We need to spend some time t odraw out the lessons. These lessons are also probably applicable around the world. I encourage you to continue to work with your attendants. I agree that it is important to understand what motivates them. I’m not sure whether your question is asking about the construction workers. I’d need to spend some time to reply to that issue in a sensible way. I think within the next 4 weeks or so, I’ll be able to share my thoughts.

Hello Eileen. There are indeed the makings of an important story here. The work that the local management company contracted to do was concluded on time and under budget. Perhaps the case study will make people curious about the methods that were able to generate such powerful results. My direct role was small and it has been interesting to see the story about the power of Emotional Intelligence unfold.

For readers outside of Jamaica who don’t know, the Fiesta building site in Hanover is a construction site that encountered problems in late February 2007.

I was really touched when i saw the headline and what it reads, to know that a group of construction workers benefited from the emotional intelligence program. In my opinion we need more of this type of training in Jamaica, and it should begin at the heart of learning;in school.Keep up the excellent work that you are doing.

    Hello Suzette:

Thanks so much for your comment and for your encouragement. As I concluded in the presentation “EQ is for everyone.” The workers were very responsive and, it seems that they are continuing to put into practice the lessons that they learned. I certainly learnt a lot from them also.

Your phrase about “the heart of learning” is very apt. Our habits and beliefs tend to be more malleable when we are younger. Indeed, I feel that the best possible investment in EQ that any society can make is in early childhood education. This would give the greatest leverage and return on $ investment. If countries did this, the funds that organisations and individuals invested in EQ Learning Programmes for adults would be of a “topping up” nature and less money overall would be spent.

Can I ask also Suzette: “How are your progressing in your Emotional Intelligence journey?”

Thanks so much for your congratulations. I have passed them on to the project sponsor, so that she can pass them on to the workers.

    Hello Jeanette:

It’s great to hear from you. This story seems to have touched a chord with many people in Jamaica. I have kept the project sponsor in touch with the coments that everyone has posted on the blog and I’m sure she’ll pass it on to the workers.
I agree with you that documenting these achievements dramatises the fact that we can use our thoughts and beliefs to create a better reality. This is one of the benefits of Emotional Intelligence.

Jeanette, can I ask, does it surprise you to learn that the project sponsor is woman?
