I can attest well to Sara Fister Gale’s writings in her ‘Beyond the Hype’ article as it relates to the point that projects are more about people than tasks. This is based on an expereince I had some years ago.

Despite having been a student of Organizational Theory and Behaviour, it only became clear to me the extent to which projects are more about relationships than tasks, when some years ago I was surprised at the huge bond that still existed with past co-workers, some of whom I had shared many late nights with, working to meet project deadlines.

The epiphany came when I was attending a conference and coincidentally on three different occasions I was seated amongst 3 sets of ex coworkers from previous employment. It was very surprising to me each time, how it felt very much like we were all working together again during that short interaction and the bond that still existed between us.

Sarah has a very clear writing style and that helps us to have “a-ha” moments. Thank you for a very interesting and insightful story. I’d love to know whether you have used this insight in subsequent projects.
