3 “Beyond The Hype” Questions, Part 2
April 29th, 2007 by Galba Bright
Anthony Mersino asked 3 great questions in his comments on Sarah Fister Gale’s Beyond The Hype Article. It’s a must read if you want to understand the connection between EQ and successful projects.
Anthony’s first question was:
1) How do we determine where people are? (what is their current level of EQ).
Anthony’s second question was:
Based on where they are, how do we determine their EQ potential?
Here’s my response:
Norman Vincent Peale ended his book Why Some Positive Thinkers Get Powerful Results with this quotation by the great inventor Thomas Edison.
“If we did all the things we are capable of, we would literally astonish ourselves.”
I believe that the quote applies to EQ. There is no limit to what we can achieve if we commit to developing our EQ. The one qualifier is that there are some physical and neurological conditions that prevent (or limit) some people from using their EQ.
In this recent post at his EQ4PM Blog Anthony says he’s reflected on the second question and come to the conclusion that there isn’t a limit on a person’s EQ potential. He contrasts EQ as being limitless with IQ which he regards as fixed.
I don’t see it the same way as Anthony.
From my reading of reading fine brain based business blogs like Ellen Weber’s Brain Based Business Blog and Robyn McMaster’s Brain Based Biz Blog I have revised my position on IQ. I believe that there are ways that in which a person can improve his or her IQ. However, I do still believe that it’s important to know Why A High IQ Can Be Bad For Your Health.
Anthony has used his EQ to give us a free EQ lesson. He shows us 5 critical steps that we need to follow to improve our EQ:
1. Question your beliefs.
2. Ask good questions (of yourself and others).
3. Review your beliefs in the light of the data that you receive (the answers to your questions)
4. Be prepared to change your beliefs when this is appropriate
5. Improve your EQ by aligning your behaviour with your (new) beliefs.
Thanks so much for your questions, Anthony. I’m sure that we can disagree without being disagreeable
How do the rest of you feel about the potential of IQ and EQ?
