Me and My EQ: Tanika’s Story

May 6th, 2007 by Galba Bright

In this series, we read the stories of four people who sought to increase their EQ. In this post we meet Tanika Williams. Tanika is a 29 year old female teacher from the parish of Westmoreland in Jamaica. Her interests include; cycling, listening to moral based music, educating herself concerning holistic health, including a live-enzymes diet, spiritual soundness, self-control and exercise.

How it started

The beginning

Tanika and I “met” on IRIE FM’s Running African radio programme on January 22nd 2006.

She signed up for copies of the free Quarterly Tools for Transformation Newsletter™, my 7 Laws of Emotional Intelligenceand theTune Up Your Emotional Intelligence E-Book™. We contact each other from time to time by email and by ‘phone. We have met on a few occasions.

Tanika’s story

What results have you achieved using the Tools for Transformation?

I have memorised all the 7 Laws of Emotional Intelligence and I use them as my Daily Analysis Sheet. I assess my daily behaviour each night before I go to bed and strive to find solutions once they are needed.

What barriers have you encountered?

My chief barrier was to correctly appreciate the first law -”I am responsible for my own feelings”. I found it quite “mind-bogging”; but with continuous reading, repetition and memorisation - this daily improved my understanding and appreciation of what I regard as the most challenging of the seven.

I view it as having a very thin but distinct difference between itself and the second law, which is empowering me not to allow self-impinged external forces to dictate my thoughts which influence my feelings and eventually my behaviour/actions. Hence I am greatly challenged to be in charge of ME - My THOUGHTS.

What did you do to overcome them?

To be more focused on being in charge of My Thoughts and the stature of each person.

What do you plan to do next?

I will just have to continue the refining of me because the summit is perfection.

What can I do to help you achieve your plans?

We need to see each other and have a chat in a session.

Tanika finished her story with this insight:

Good feelings are like ointments which heal wounds.

Thanks for sharing your insights and experiences Tanika. Next, we’ll meet Jeanette.
