Me and My EQ, Jeanette’s Story, Part 2

May 11th, 2007 by Galba Bright

In the Me and My EQ series, we read the stories of four people who sought to increase their EQ. This is the second part of Jeanette’s story.

Jeanette Campbell is a Senior Lecturer at the Edna Manley College of Visual and Performing Art in Jamaica.

Question 2: What barriers have you encountered?

“I feel like I am moving into new dimensions of social awareness and relationship management. Those three people I love , the rocky shoals of those relationships, felt like I had been flattened completely, like life had no meaning , no colour, no life, like I did not know how create love in my life.

I don’t feel so traumatized about the classroom, the workplace relationships, but I feel the need for a serious quantum leap so I can move to higher levels of connecting with others.

I feel like I have some limiting assumptions or lack of knowledge , about relationships, social dynamics, that I want to get right.

I feel like I have overcome a lot of fears, example, fear of taking risks , but I fell down a bit and I was not sure how to get up again.”

Question 3: What did you do to overcome them?

“I keep my daily journal very faithfully . I actually have one at home, coloured markers, and in the last five months, and one on the computer because at work I felt the need to process stuff, and I do it best by writing .

My best friend , whom I lost , we used to be able to share our emotional intelligence struggles , though we never did use that phrase, we called ourselves people watchers. We shared our relationship dynamics struggles and advised each other. I never before had that level and quality of sharing, and not since. I miss that.”

Thanks Jeanette. In part 3 we’ll complete her story.
