If only I could have had that kind of courage to stand up to that kind of tirrade and attempt to send you on a guilt trip when I was a young woman! What a lesson for the parents of today.
    poitier declares
Law #1: I am responsible for my own feelings -
Law #2: I am responsible for my own behaviour
    Poitier does:
Law #3: I always have choices about how I respond to situations, events and people.
Law #4: No-one can make me upset, angry, happy etc.
I reckon when he turns his back and has a smile and says ‘dad’ he has checke up on himself and made sure he killed off the agression building in his response.
Law #5: Identifying my choices empowers me to take fresh look at my behaviour.

    Hi Jenny:

You brought a really interesting spin by applying the 7 Laws to the clip, thanks. We discussed this clip at a recent Learning Programme. There’s certainly a lot in there that we can learn from. I hope you continue to stop by Tune up your EQ.

I think Sidney Poitier portrayed dignity, poise, compassion, empathy and a sense of self. He knows who he is and has a sense of his own worth.

[…] Let’s quickly review what Sidney Poitier has shown us so far. In an amazing clip from Guess Whose Coming To Dinner he used his EQ take us through a wide range of emotions. Then he then explained how Emotional Intelligence shaped his early years on Cat Island in the Caribbean. Doesn’t Sidney Poitier Ever Get Angry? “There is a place for people who are angry and defiant and sometimes they serve a purpose, but that’s never been my role. …..Put simply, I’ve learned that I must find positive outlets for anger or it will destroy me. There is a certain anger: it reaches such intensity that to express it fully would require homicidal rage-self-destructive on my part-real-destructive, destroy the world rage-and its flame burns because the world is so unjust. I have to find a way to channel that anger to the positive, and the highest positive is forgiveness” […]

Wonderful choice of excerpt Sir! You seem to only get better and more versatile. You continue to fulfil the definition of your surname am proud of you.

Ahhaaa… Here goes EQ in this composed actor a man of colour, who has portrayed the Emotions of complete self-control,self-identity/definition,respect,love,passion and self-assertiveness.

Let’s put this in perspective, this is a movie but many of the acts are ensamples of real life. All of us can testate that a number of times our parents do get on our nerves. They seem to want to rule our lives, simply because we do not see eye to eye. How many times have this situation been re-presented in our lives? Do we handle them that well as Sidney has?

Again, Galba you challenge your blog visitors or you have made others like myself see how advanced we have transitioned.

I thank you and your excellent EQ work continues to have meaning in my life-transformation ranging from a challenge to an affirmation.

    Peace
