Is Asafa A Phoenix Or A Failure?
August 27th, 2007 by Galba BrightAsafa Powell On Winning 100m Bronze, Not Gold At The World Championship
“I started very well then I stumbled a bit and I tried to pull away from Tyson (Gay) I pulled away a little bit but I felt him coming and I started to tighten up.”
“I needed to stay relaxed and hold my ground but I panicked and Tyson got the best of me.”
“I was in great shape and ready to go, but I made a huge mistake in the final.”
These were Asafa Powell’s words in an interview immediately after finishing third in the 100 metres final at the World Athletic Championships in Osaka.
The Legend Of The Phoenix
The phoenix is a lone beautiful bird, the only one of its kind. It is said to live for nearly five hundred years, after which it begins to build a nest of dry sticks and twigs, all the while singing a melodious tune.
When the phoenix finishes this task, it flaps its wings furiously and sets the nest on fire. Resting on top of the burning pile, it slowly consumes itself into ashes. It then rises from the ashes, a new bird. The new phoenix is alone and unique. It lives for another five hundred years.
Are Self-Awareness and Naivety The Same Thing?
1. Was Asafa “too honest” in this interview?
2. Is Asafa a phoenix or a failure?
I’m curious to know what you think.
