To make 2008 your best year ever here are 3 things you must do before you make any New Year Resolutions:

1. Get a clear picture about what success means to you.

2. Build on this clarity to define meaningful, motivating goals.

3. Leave scope in your planning for unintentended consequences.

In a follow up article, I’ll share how I successfully :) followed these 3 steps during 2007 as I worked to develop Tune up your EQ.

Stephen R. Covey Reveals The Ultimate Wealth Creation Secret

December 18th, 2007 by Galba Bright

“Your economic security does not lie in your job; it lies in your own power to produce - to think, to learn, to create, to adapt.”

“That’s true financial independence. It’s not having wealth; it’s having the power to power to produce wealth.”

“It’s intrinsic.”

Stephen R. Covey, The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People

I’m curious. As 2007 slips away, does Stephen R. Covey’s statement apply where you work?

What would it be like to practice this principle in 2008?

Could it help you to make 2008 your best year ever?

3 More Resources For Thriving on Change

December 16th, 2007 by Galba Bright

achievement3.jpg

In the Thriving on Change Series, I encouraged you to use your self awareness to increase your resilience. I suggested that this would help you become more adaptable.

Here are 3 top quality articles on the topic of change. Read them and continue on your positive path.

Steve Roesler, from All Things Workplace has an epic series about change.

He gives great practical examples and helpful visuals that breathe life into the issues that he discusses. He always makes visitors welcome and hosts great discussions.

He’s written about The Emotional Cycle of Change:

“In 30+ years of business and business consulting, I’ve never seen anyone commit a violent or hurtful act during a large-scale change. It does happen. I have, though, often discovered instances of people taking their anger and depression home and causing great turmoil in their families–a cycle which impacts the workplace and the well-being of spouses and children.”

You really should stop by All Things Workplace.

Thom Quinn poses the challenging question : What’s your excuse? He reminds us that we should take personal responsibility for our actions.

He explains that:

“Excuses are mental tricks to protect oneself.”

Thom shows us why we must “own” our reactions when things go wrong. We should also accept the consequences.

Let’s close by throwing open the vast windows of our imagination. Liara Covert, from the Dreambuilders Blog, invites us to enjoy the Magical Tools at Our Fingertips.

She says:

“You may be frightened by the prospect of success. Yet, the truth is that you may be impressionable about negative things and find it hard to realize you can win at what you truly desire. The first step is to realize you have talent. Tap into it your way. Magic is found in believing in yourself for real. This goes beyond positive thinking itself. Magic lies in the doing.”

The article presents a lovely, expansive way of looking at your talents. It shows you that your life is crammed full of possibilities, if you’ll only reach for them.

Read these fine writers and prepare to make 2008 your best year ever.

I really hope that you’ll enjoy these articles. What other resources do you use to thrive on change? Do let me know.
