What Are The Pros and Cons of A High IQ?:Ray Hobby’s Story
February 22nd, 2008 by Galba BrightIn this series, Mensa member and Tune up your EQ reader, Ray Hobby explains why, despite having a high IQ, he is enthusiastic about emotional intelligence. In the third article in this 7 part series, Ray reveals the pros and cons of having a high IQ.
Pro’s –
” • recognising – and responsibly using - the assets mentioned in 2. above, as significant contributors to enable you to do something worthwhile.• a reasonable expectation to be able cope with problems and difficulties that others may give up on.
• a confidence to genuinely help others …as they require to be helped.
• to inform and encourage others - as you require - to get things done.”
Con’s –
“• other people can have an impossible, even an unreasonably high expectation of your abilities …if they know of your high IQ.
• there may be a tendency to be arrogant and impatient with others who do not share a level or a speed of intellectual understanding.”

“Consider the poor individual who says they can ‘do the splits’, for instance. Nobody believes them until they are actually seen ‘doing the splits’. “
“Now consider the dilemma of someone with a high IQ. Also remember especially – no one loves a smart-a***e and everyone takes great delight when that same person makes a mistake.”
“Enjoy the assets they afford and have real friends as associates…even those who ask you to write an article about - ‘Me and My High IQ’.”
Thanks, Ray. In the next article, Ray shares his tips for making the most of your IQ.
